Rishikesh is about 240 km from Delhi. Since the Dehradun expressway opened it can be done in three and a half to four hours, though the old route through Haridwar is still the better choice if you want to stop there on the way.

Charging on the Delhi to Rishikesh route
No charging stop is needed on the way — 240 km is inside a single charge and we leave Delhi at 100%. What we plan for is the other end. Rishikesh has essentially one public fast charger and it does not run at night. So we treat Dehradun, about 30 km away and open around the clock, as the real charging point for this trip, and we arrive with enough range to get there without a detour.
We are field-verifying the chargers on this route — our chauffeurs charge at each one and photograph it before we list it here. Until then, our operations team plans and confirms the charging stop for your specific booking.
What to know about this drive
- Laxman Jhula has been closed to all traffic since 2019 and Ram Jhula is pedestrians only, so no vehicle crosses the river at either bridge. If you are staying on the Swarg Ashram side, the car routes around by road — tell us the property when you book.
- During the Kanwar Yatra in Shravan, the Delhi–Haridwar highway closes to all vehicles for roughly a fortnight and Rishikesh becomes very difficult to reach by road. The dates shift each year with the lunar calendar; we will tell you at booking if your travel falls inside them.
- If you are continuing to the Char Dham, all vehicle movement on those routes is banned between 22:00 and 04:00. That means clearing Rishikesh by early afternoon, not evening.
Places to stop between Delhi and Rishikesh
- Haridwar: Har-ki-Pauri and the evening Ganga aarti, about 20 km before Rishikesh on the old route.
- Rajaji National Park: The elevated expressway corridor if you go via Dehradun, or the forest road on the old route.
- Ram Jhula: The pedestrian suspension bridge to Swarg Ashram and Parmarth Niketan.
- Neelkanth Mahadev: A temple in the hills about 32 km beyond Rishikesh, a common half-day add-on.
Frequently asked questions
How long does Delhi to Rishikesh take now?
Three and a half to four hours via the new Dehradun expressway, or around five on the old route through Meerut and Haridwar. We use the old route when you want to stop at Haridwar on the way.
Can the car drop me across Ram Jhula or Laxman Jhula?
No. Laxman Jhula has been closed since 2019 and Ram Jhula is pedestrian-only, so no vehicle crosses there. For ashrams on the Swarg Ashram side the car goes round by road. Tell us where you are staying and we will plan the approach.
Can we stop at Haridwar on the way?
Yes, and many guests do — Har-ki-Pauri is about 20 km short of Rishikesh on the old route. Mention it at booking so we take that road rather than the expressway.
Is Rishikesh reachable during the Kanwar Yatra?
Usually not by the normal route. The Delhi–Haridwar highway closes to all vehicles for around a fortnight during Shravan. We will flag it at booking if your dates fall in that window rather than letting you find out at a barrier.
Will an electric car make it to Rishikesh without running out of charge?
Yes, comfortably. We depart at 100% charge and this route is well within a single charge. The BYD e6 carries a 71.7 kWh battery and returns 380-420 km on a highway with the air conditioning on and a full load - measured on our own cars, not a lab figure.
What happens if the charging station is not working?
Every planned stop has at least one named alternative within reach, and our operations team checks charger status on the morning of departure. Charger downtime is a real problem on Indian highways, which is why we plan for it rather than hope.
Does the charging stop make the trip longer?
We budget a full hour for a charging stop, and we schedule it where you would want a break anyway - somewhere with a clean restroom and food. Often it takes less, but we plan the day on an hour so a busy charger does not put you behind schedule.
