Chandigarh is about 258 km from Delhi on NH44, through Sonipat, Panipat, Karnal and Ambala. Four to four and a half hours on a wide, well-surfaced highway — the least complicated of all our Delhi routes.
It is mostly a working drive, and an electric car suits it. There is no engine noise to talk over, so a call from the back seat sounds like a call from an office. The fare is fixed at booking and the same chauffeur takes you the whole way.

Charging on the Delhi to Chandigarh route
We leave Delhi at 100% and stop for about an hour at Karnal, roughly half way, where there are two separate 24-hour fast chargers within a short distance of each other. Karnal is the right place for it: Panipat, despite being the bigger town, has no charger our cars can use, and Ambala further on has nothing open around the clock. Chandigarh itself is very well served.

What to know about this drive
- Winter is the one thing to plan around, and the advice inverts. Dense fog on NH44 in December and January causes serious multi-vehicle pile-ups, so in those months we depart after 09:00 rather than before dawn.
- Toll is roughly ₹390 for a car across the Panipat, Karnal and Ambala plazas, billed separately. All plazas are cashless.
- This is a common one-way corporate route. If you only need a drop, book it as a one-way rather than a round trip.
Places to stop between Delhi and Chandigarh
- Murthal: The paratha dhabas about 50 km out — the traditional first stop on this road.
- Panipat: The battlefield town and the handloom market, roughly 90 km in.
- Karnal: Where we charge, with full services at the 131 km milestone.
- Ambala: The last major town before the Punjab and Haryana border into Chandigarh.

When is the best time to leave?
Early, except in December and January. Dense fog on NH44 in midwinter is a genuine safety issue and we would rather leave after 09:00 and arrive later than drive into it at dawn.
Is a one-way drop available?
Yes, and it is how most business travellers book this route. A one-way drop is priced for the outbound leg only, with no return charge added.
Can I work during the drive?
This is one of the better reasons to take this route in an electric car. There is no engine noise, so calls from the back seat are clear, and the chauffeur is trained not to fill the drive with conversation unless you want it.
Will an electric car make it to Chandigarh without running out of charge?
Yes. We depart at 100% charge and plan one charging stop on the way. The BYD e6 returns 380-420 km on a highway with the air conditioning running and a full load, and we never plan a route that depends on arriving with an empty battery.
What happens if the charging station is not working?
Every planned stop has at least one named alternative within reach, and our operations team checks charger status on the morning of departure. Charger downtime is a real problem on Indian highways, which is why we plan for it rather than hope.
Does the charging stop make the trip longer?
We budget a full hour for a charging stop, and we schedule it where you would want a break anyway - somewhere with a clean restroom and food. Often it takes less, but we plan the day on an hour so a busy charger does not put you behind schedule.
